Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven’t done any recent posts on Special Education. I am a sandwich generation woman, and have been moving my 85 year old mother into our house. My siblings are not much help, and my husband injured his knee. I realized it was 100% on me to make the move happen. Years ago we bought a home with plans to have room for mom when we needed it, but of course we filled up that space with the kid’s drum sets, giant remote control plane building areas, and crafts galore. So, I planned a giant ripple through that involves building sheds, cleaning out the garage stuff to the sheds. Moving my son into the garage as it has electricity for his tools and distance for the drums (LOL). Then temporarily rearranging sleeping to get my mom into our house. I’m currently sleeping on various sofa’s and an outside daybed. (It’s complicated. Hubby and I both snore, he goes to bed early and gets up super early for work, mom’s in his room so I put him in mine. Eventually, we all get our rooms back.)
Step one is accomplished. Mom is in our house and seems pretty happy. Yaaaay!! I spent weeks packing, sorting, and hauling. Blew out my back. Aargh! As I write, two Russian guys are building sheds for us from kits. Contractors are working on remodeling an area for my mom that will have its own bath. And stuff is EVERYWHERE! Stacks of boxes of books (I am a writer after all!) a porch littered with garage sale things, camping gear and Christmas decorations under tarps outside, 3 rolling walkers in the house each on a different level, my daughter’s knee walker…because why not juggle your 14 y/o girl through ankle surgery at the same time…and my mom’s old place is still full of stuff.
All of which is to say, it will be a few weeks before the Special Education articles come out again! But, they will be coming. We have much to talk about. So many families struggling without help. I’m determined to shine a light on these issues.
So, hold on. More special education articles coming soon…ish!
